Ben Affleck, cuyo filme Argo recibió el año pasado el Oscar a Mejor Película, entregó a Alfonso Cuarón, director de Gravity (que hizo más de $678 en la taquilla internacional), el premio del Sindicato de Directores de Estados Unidos (Directors Guild of America award). En los últimos nueve años, este premio y el Oscar a Mejor Director han coincidido.

La semana pasada, durante la entrega del premio del Sindicato de Productores de Estados Unidos, por primera vez desde hace 25 años, se declaró un empate entre las dos nominadas al Oscar, Gravity y 12 Years a Slave, del director británico Steve McQueen.

Al recibir el premio, Cuarón dijo:

“Esto es realmente un honor y me siento muy honrado por este reconocimiento.  Sigo teniendo un crush adolescente con otros directores y me siento muy nervioso cuando les hablo.”

Una vez anunciado este premio, la carrera por el Oscar estará dominada por American Hustle (que ganó el SAG Award), Gravity y 12 Years a Slave.
