¿Qué leía Marilyn Monroe? Lejos de los reflectores, de la imagen de rubia sensual y tonta que Hollywood había creado, la actriz tenía una faceta poco conocida: su pasión por la literatura. En su casa, los libros mantenían un lugar privilegiado. Su biblioteca personal albergaba una colección de más de 430 títulos. Autores como Federico García Lorca, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Tennessee Williams o Alber Camus, poblaban su estantería. Entre sus amigos más cercanos se encontraban Truman Capote o Norman Mailer. Estuvo casada con el dramaturgo Arthur Miller de 1956 a 1961. En 2010 se publicaron los textos inéditos que tras su muerte se descubrieron, la obra compuesta por distintos textos escritos por la intérprete fueron compilados bajo el título de Fragmentos.

Gracias al trabajo de investigación —entrevistas, fotografías, los registros de la subasta realizada por Christie’s, en Nueva York— realizado por el sitio  Everlasting Star, formado por seguidores de Monroe, se conocen hoy cuántos y qué títulos conformaban su biblioteca.
