Este año se estrena Magic Mike XXL  (2015) y Steven Soderbergh no fue el encargado de dirigirlo, sin embargo el cineasta estadounidense participó como editor, cinefotógrafo y productor ejecutivo del filme. Desde hace un par de años, Soderbergh está más interesado en producir proyectos de nuevos cineastas –tal es el caso de Laura Poitras y su polémico documental sobre Edward Snowden, Citizenfour (2014)– y en la realización de series televisivas como The Knick (2015) y The Girlfriend Experience (2015).

Aunque han pasado 26 años desde su debut como director con Sex, Lies and Videotape, en 1989, durante una entrevista para The Washington Post, Soderbergh habló sobre sus influencias y destacó sus 11 filmes preferidos que les presentamos a continuación:
